Have a delicious weekend!

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

It’s been a pretty good week for me and although I’m a little stressed about going back to school, I’m so excited to learn new things! I was about to leave my office today when a guy approached me and started a conversation with me. It was uncomfortable because he first said “My Goodness, what a cute little figure you have! Look at you!”. Then he said he’s from Tennessee and how I can probably detect his southern accent and how he has ten siblings and blah..blah..blah…He’s a lot older than I am (I guess in his late thirties) and I’m already too creeped out by his first remark so I just smiled and didn’t say much. I wanted to leave but I didn’t want to be rude so I listened to his ramblings for about 10 more minutes and finally he said we should hang out (No thanks!) and left. How do you guys show a guy that you’re not interested and turn him down politely? I’m really curious because sometimes I don’t know what to do or say!Gorgeous new compaign shot by Garance Dore for Petit Bateau.Love these outfits for my weekend inspirations! What I want to indulge in this weekend..ice cream and strawberry shortcake! 1. lovely post!!!!

  2. I must have a look that I give guys when they come on like that
cause they never end up wanting to hang out. With the heat we are
having I like the outfit that looks so cool with the hat and wonderful
    handbag.

i love this post, especially what the girl with the long dark curls is wearing πŸ™‚ and as for dealing with guys like that, I usually either tell them I’m in relationship (even if I currently am not) or try to look really uncomfortable/ like I’m in a rush. ..

I’m not looking forward for school aswell… oh sigh..
About that strange guy, first I would take his so-called ‘compliment’ as something positive and that he’s trying to be friendly after that I’ll just look away or turn my back against him. This should give him the idea that you don’t wanne talk or that you are interest in him…
And if he still wanne contact you by sharing his boring lifestory just friendly say that you’re busy or that you need to catch a bus…..

If this all fails: grab your phone and pretend you are having a conversation with your boyfriend!
    Haha xx http://icepandora.blogspot.com

  5. Aprilia Love says:

Wow – what balls that guy had to come onto you like that, haha.
I never really get into these situations – well I used to a lot when I was younger, say a few years ago but that’s because I was so naive and was way too friendly to everyone that I think they got the wrong idea?
It hasn’t really happened to me lately – probably because I am always with my bf? Haha.
I used to just smile and laugh politely then say that I have to be somewhere.. always works! πŸ™‚
He didn’t lie though – you do have a great figure, hehe.
    Have a great weekend!!

    xx

I think I would have done exactly like you, because of this thing about being polite, can’t help it. But then, on the other hand I sometimes think, why are we trying to be polite even when they are not? So, he is much older than you and says this thing about your aspect which may made you feel intimidated but still you listen to all his story and in the end refuse to hang out politely. I know exactly the situation! And I think, with time and age you learn to see them coming and say “Byeee” even before they have time to open their mouth, you’ll see πŸ˜‰ Enjoy your weekend!
    xx

  7. Nasrin says:

Wow his a bold guy! maybe it was a nervous ramble the whole 10 sibling thing – guys are weird like that I’m guessing, lol. Dealing with it – Listen, entertain his mumblings and just go with what your gut says.
    You know yourself best πŸ™‚
    Happy weekends await!

Thank you for the advice! great post πŸ™‚

  9. Naomi Marie says:

Love the Petit Bateau campaign! Tres Chic!

As for the guy situation, I wish I had some halfway decent advice to offer. I’m not very good with these situations, I just tend to make some sort of excuse and then flee!

  10. Catherine says:

Have a nice weekend too! as usual, this post is very inspiring:) I NEED a pleated skirt! This red one is awesome..

  12. lacee swan says:

thats a tough one! i live in new york city, so it happens a little too often….so i usually say thank you for the compliment, but no thanks. and if they are aggressive then you just have to be plain rude! unfortunately! Have a great weekend…..back to school, how fun! I am looking forward to fall though!

  13. dahl says:

wow that guys sounds like a total creeper! Next time just tell him you’re running late for something and hopefully he’ll get the message. If he’s gonna be rude enough to waste 20 minutes of your time, don’t worry about being rude to him! Anyway, you’ll never see him again either.
I love the ice cream and strawberry shortcake! yum yum πŸ™‚ I want some too…

  14. Kate L. says:

I would say “Excuse me, I’m in a hurry and my boyfriend is waiting for me!” or
I would just say “bye” and leave!
I love the red skirt very much. Have a great weekend!

  19. Kasia says:

    I looove your blog πŸ˜‰

  20. I think you handled that guy situation the right way. I wish I knew a polite way to not waste time on a guy you’re not interested in, but the only thing I know to do is smile, nod, and then move on. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  21. Stylista says:

Oh gosh that is one awkward comment! I mean, he obviously means well, but it can be awkward! You were very nice to comtinue listening to him talk, and I probably would’ve done the same (or tried to politely leave by saying I had to run). Anyway, I don’t get approached by random men very often, so I honestly don’t know what I’d do! lol! Anyway, loving those weekend looks!

great pictures, hope you are having a fantastic weekend! xo

  24. I definitely don’t do it politely…I just act like a bitch and walk away haha. It makes me so mad to be perfectly honest, like what are these old creepy men doing going up to young girls and thinking they have a chance? It’s disgusting. Hope you’re managing to have a good weekend despite the creep-o incident, I’m getting so excited for school too but yes, very nervous!

I love that outfit you put together! I am wearing a very similiar skirt in my most recent post, but in a light pink on http://www.angelamatina.com – it is from Club Monaco.

I just came across your blog through another blog, and I must say I just spent the last hour going through back so many pages. I love how detailed your posts are, AND SO HELPFUL with the great finds and links that you provide!! Thanks so much, keep it up – i will be a regular now πŸ˜‰ X

  26. Ann says:

Ooh… I love your weekend look.
    The hat is gorgeous.
And the sweets. Ooh they’re yum!

I just give the guy my best
    smirk and bored face combo.
That’s always been enough to make
    them go away.

    Have a happy weekend!

  27. Ohh your story reminds me of something similarly creepy that happened to me. I was 17 and I was out on the street in Brussels, Belgium, when this 40-ish year-old bald guy accosted me and was like “Oh wow you look so nice but you’re not from here, are you?” and when he found out I was Romanian he went on with the crazy “Oh yeah, Romanians are such beautiful friendly people we should hang out at this new bar, it’s awesome!”. I told him I was leaving the country the next day, though I had like two weeks left.

If you can’t tell him you’re leaving the country, tell him you’re so busy . In my experience, they get the hint.
    Gorgeous article, as usual, darling.

  29. Wiola says:

hey sweetie! beautiful outfits and i could pretty much scoop something out of each of them! great post-very interesting! well sometimes it’s not easy to say to the guy-‘man back off’:) i’m always trying to be polite and always say that i have a boyfriend, so sorry i won’t go for a drink etc. and that’s all:) in the past if that was someone not in my type i would say that i’m busy or not from this town haha or just made things up:) as i think that sometimes it’s better to make things up than hurt someone feelings:) how is your weekend??? xxx

  30. Sylwia says:

  39. Erika Tan says:

See, cos you look amazingly gorgeous all the time with ur super awesome sense of style, it’s hard not to attract guys! hehehe, it’s a compliment πŸ™‚
but yeah I’d definitely be creeped out in your situation as well :s hmmm, just tell him you’re busy and keep on finding excuses…like..obvious excuses to turn him down and he should be able to get it, if he still doesn’t, then probably you need to put it straight out not to pester u anymore!

lovely photos πŸ˜‰ have a lovely day too~

    xx

  40. Kimberly says:

    Hey !
I don’t know hoe to react when guys say stuff like that ether. I usually run away, when it’s a much older guy that I don’t know, you can’t never be too careful right ? People over here are a little paranoid hehe.
Love the outfit you put together πŸ™‚
    Xoxo

  41. Joy says:

Ugh. You tell them that you’re running late for an appointment and make a bee-line for the car. If you’re trapped at a bus stop (or somewhere awkward) you pretend like you received an important phone call and excuse yourself to chat with your imaginary friend?

  42. uh yeah, that sounds a bit creepy to me too! i would probably have told him i was in a hurry and had to go. anyways, i always love your posts, their so inspiring! i love the yellow and blue outfit, and the one in the white dress. The outfit you put together is great also πŸ™‚

    I love the pleated skirt.

  46. Lovelyladyjb says:

Funny story! I am actually pretty good at this! I generally would just smile, nod, maybe say oh thanks and keep walking.. if that didn’t work as he started to either ask me questions or what not, I would give short answers and immediately indicate that I am in a rush and need to leave. As I am saying this I would turn to walk away. Leaving awkward weird guy by his lonesome. If you’re not interested no use of wasting both of your time. Or immediately tell him you are flattered but have a boyfriend. (which now I do so it just makes things that much easier)

When a guy hits on me, and when I am not interested (especially since I am engaged now!), I tell the dude straight up. Like, “I know I’m awesome and hot, but I am totally not interested in you because there is no way you will ever match my level of awesomeness or hotness. So go away.”
These outfits are super cute. I lovelovelove the shoes. LOVE.
