What do you think about preppy style? Are you a fan? According to Wikihow, A prep is someone who cares about their appearance enough to look good — but not so much that they are superficial. They are clean cut, classy andย sophisticated. Madewell Spring Summer 2011 lookbook.
I think sometimes calling someone a prep has bad canotations. But I think the idea of preppy style has changedย over theย years. What do you think?
oh yes…the meaning of preppy sure has evolved over the years…before it was all about the rich and the snotty..but..now..its like how wikihow explains it…and anyways its a style that everyone can implement in different ways….the madewell collection looks great..love those colours..!!!!!!
I love preppy style. they are simple yet classic, formal yet casual at the same time too! love it, balance in between looking presentable and look young!
xoxo.

The Wikihow page on ‘how to be preppy’ is kind of funny, but a little too strict.
Dressing preppy can be interpreted in many ways, so there’s not really a guideline there…
Love the look, tough ๐
For me, preppy is just my way I like to go. Classic pieces worn with a twist. So I think itยดs wise to invest on good pair of dark denim jeans, t-shirts in good material or classic camel trenchcoat. Adding some details as this chunky orange necklace or headscarf above, make outfit more individual.
fUNNY PICS FULL OF COLORS AND STYLE. Beautiful psot and outfits, I find very interesting,e very times, your suggestions and advices about fashion styles!!
I like being preppy. Charlotte-like sweet. Deep as a moist fig jam filled macaron. Fashion with my style. Living my life with Susu passion. Painting, drawing and decorating my body.
I would love to be in these outfits! This is exactly what I like!
So I guess, I have a preppy style. ๐
I know I do. ๐

They inspire me to dress up all the time. ๐
Can I get madewell pieces online? I like the brown bag and the shoes! ๐

it’s too much in my opinion.
great post. you shared the goodies of preppyness in a wonderful way
well done!
i think as well the meaning has changed until now…and personally i like the preppy look!!

p.s. Versace Versus smells excellent,so fresh and energetic!!:)
Hi sweetie! Aaaw thanks so much for complementing my better half:) And oh I love prep, but I feel kinda lost in it because it’s so clean. I think it looks gorgeous on others, but it’s to simple for me. Have a nice day gorgeous!
I love the look and the photos, I have a friend and she’s the most preppy girl I ever known. Btw thank you so much for your comment in my blog, the items aren’t still for sale but soon they will be, of course I will let you know. I love your blog! Kisses.
Really? I thought that a preppy girl was something very different, something like a girl with a school look :S weird. But I love the definition, it sound very good ๐
I’m definitely a prep sometimes, and I admire people who do it really well and still look fun. I try to mix it up a bit though, so if I’m super preppy in one respect I’ll rough it up somewhere else! Great post love!
When I think “prep” I instantly think “Tommy Hilfiger.” But I think he’s more of the classic preppy look; the more modern type would be slouchier, less clean-cut. I definitely think cardigans, pleated pants and argyle are still staples though!
Also, I feel like “prep” used to mean “jock” (at least, when I was in high school). Whereas now, I don’t think jocks dress preppy…
Hmm I don’t know… My school is very, very preppy, but I absolutely love it. The amount of J.Crew I see on a daily basis is lovely, especially because everyone does look nice, but not in a superficial way. I love the casual, preppy look!
Truth to be told; I love prep! I think that Blair Waldorf’s style on Gossip Girl embodies prep; and who’s to say that she isn’t gorgeous?! (Though of course.. I prefer Blake Lively’s character!) I would gladly wear all of the outfits you’ve posted; well; except for the last one; and headbands. That is something I have to say no to! Prep has definitely had some bad connotations; partly b/c some people would buy a polo tee with a polo player/alligator stamped on it; throw in a pair of khakis/capris and sweater and call it prep; but. oh well; to each his own.
“Preppy” is a term I haven’t thought about since high school. I think in high school we label each others sense of styles because we form cliques. But in the real world, that sort of labeling changes for most people. When I think of preppy now, my thoughts turn to Kurt from Glee in his all boys uniformed school, or that IT Girl in your school wearing her boyfriend’s varsity jacket. And even along the lines of the last photo you’ve got on this post. But for me, such a term, with all it’s negative connotations remains in high school. I can see the evolution from that last image to the first, as well as the high street version of the first in Madewell’s new lookbook. But I would never stop to consider it preppy if I came across it in life. I would, however, fall in love, as those Madewell pieces are just so lovely in their simplicity!
I think you’re right, preppy can be an insult, but it can also be a very cool style. I love the preppy look, I am not sure how verbally, it got so connected to superficiality tho. Love all the madewell looks!!!
I’m in love with the preppy style, I have thought about it before and decided that that’s what my spring/summer outfits will look like. And I’ve found a bag like the ones in one of the last pics during the sales in Antwerp! Not really handy when carrying it but that was probably because I’d put too much in there… Love the post and the idea of bringing back the preppy style!
I have to say, I am a fan of preppy style. I’ve been told my natural style, the style I sort of naturally gravitate towards, is preppy, and for a while I kind of struggled with that because preppy used to be rich/snobby/basic, and not especially ‘fashionable’. But now the whole connotation has changed, and preppy can be quite fashionable, as we can see here! So yep, big fan ๐ especially love the last image!

i love preppy look too! very classic and chic at the same time! such a great blog, very inspiring!!!
