Tie me Up or Tie me down

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

I always leave my hair down except when I take a shower. I never want to tie my hair up because I feel like I’m oppressing my hair. And also because I went to a school where all girls are told to keep their up at all times and I hated it. I try to rebel by putting my hair down one day and got into a huge trouble. I really believe that people should be free to do what they please with their body and hair and since school, I never, ever wear my hair up again.

But of course sometimes, seeing girls on the runway with their polished hair in a pretty bun makes me want to tie my hair up so I’ll probably try that this summer but then I will always prefer my hair down.I love fashion editors who keep their hair as their signature style! See! Life’s more fun when you let your hair down!

How do you keep you hair? Which hairstyle is your favorite? xoxoxxoxoo

lots of lovely hair! they look so effortless! wish mine were that easy! 😛

  2. Megan says:

I’m the exact same way, whenever I put my hair up sometimes I’ll kind of like it at first, but then I’ll think it’ll look so much better down! Plus I never know what to do with it when I put it up… I’m just not a hair person, I’m clueless… hence why I got the dip dye, so at least something is going on up there 🙂

    Cheers!

  3. D&G always have that I don’t care hair on their shows and I love it, even though my hair always has to be perfectly straight

  4. wobblinbetty says:

but tyding them up could be handy sometimes!! 🙂

  5. Wish I can have long and curly hair like the Gianfranco spring 2011..but mine’s just short and straight 🙂

I had long long hair until one month ago (80cm) and I really liked them BUT although I love leave my hair down when they are clean and after the hairdresser, sometimes they made me SO NERVOUS, when in winter with the wool dress, that I MUST tied up my hair with a ponytail or with a chignon. Then I really felt free. In summer I feel very much the warm so I have to tie up my hair, but sometimes I like keep down…… I don’t know, I’m strange 😀

    Tanti baci!

  7. I will be the first to admit that I am terrible at styling hair!! I usually leave it down and straight but that’s mainly just because I don’t know how to curl my hair or do anything different with it! I just wish I had a stylist to do my hair every morning because hair is certainly not my area of talent! 🙂 The bun in this post looks so proper and chic! Also YOUR hair is gorgeous!!

  8. I usually leave my hair down…I only tie it up when it’s dirty and I have something urgent to do and don’t have time to wash it. The last 5 years I rocked a bob haircut and now I miss it:( But it’s the first time in years that I have my hair grow long like this and I think I’m going to keep it this way for a while.

  9. Sarah says:

    thank you a lot!
i often keep my hair down;) but sometimes it looks soo baaad:D

  10. masoom says:

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I never ever leave my hair up, but now with everything around me, Im getting the sudden urge to experiment 😉

So many beautiful hair styles. I always change mine, I love to change my look. Now I wear my hair pretty long, but I don’t know how much longer it will last. 😉 Ada

  13. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS POST !
for once im actually seeing a post that embraces the fact for people who keep their hair as a “signature piece”.. everytime i visit blogs who’re doing hair posts, they always embrace short dos..

soo thanks ! i love this post 😀

  14. this is such a good post! i always get hair envy when i see models on the runway haha. i get especially jealous when it’s hairstyles that are uber complicated and my terrible hairdressing skills won’t suffice! x

  15. Jane says:

I prefer having my hair down, because if all my hair is off my face then I look weird IMO. At the moment my hair is about shoulder length so I would only be able to tie a portion of it up anyhow.

It is weird that your school insisted that everyone should have their hair up. What happened if you had short hair that did not fit into a bobble? At school, a couple of guys had mohawks and they weren’t allowed to wear them up at school.

  16. Shin, thanks for sharing that story! I do think you should try to put your hair up or a low side braid were look so cute on you! I also rarely tie my hair back (ironically I just posted pictures with my hair in a ponytail!) and prefer to wear it down as well.
I love that picture of Joanna Hillman. She always looks so great!

OK, promise to email you back this week!
    xx, becs

  18. shikha says:

same here, i have really long hair, but i love keeping it down. I like trying those chic updo s now and then, but always somehow manage to let my hair escape 😉

  19. Michaela says:

I love fashion editors who have trademark hair too! I’m always messing around with my hair, I’m just never satisfied with it!

I always wear my hair up in a bun unless I am going out 😉

So true, I hate doing my hair up, my face looks strange when I do that…

  22. You have to be rebellious with one’s own hair, it’s really important for us women. Is’nt it?
I hope that you did’nt get into too much trouble because of it 😉

  23. KIRAFASHION says:

I think the short Chanel is so chic!

  24. savvygal says:

I have not doubt, I always have short hair

  31. HauteWorld says:

I’m like you… I always wear my hair down unless I’m in the shower or washing my face. I prefer to let it fall free and move with the wind. I do like some of the more messy buns and ponytails, but it’s not for me!

  32. hi pretty!how are you?i’m good.my hair aren’t too long and i prefer myself without ponytails !
i’m agree with you by the way!
    xoxoxo

  33. Julia says:

wow…what a cool post. Magda is soo hot 😀 So, I wear my hair like that or like gianfranco ferre models. I’m sure it’s a great variant to look natural. And the last photo – it’s my hair after shampoo. 😉

  34. Becca says:

My general rule is that my hair always looks better down than up. That said, all this rain in San Francisco has been messing with my rule. My hair has ended up in a messy bun a lot lately. I’m not sure if I’m getting to like the looks of it, or if I’m just getting lazy…

  35. Julie Khuu says:

After having long hair virtually all my life, cut it before my 30th and I never looked back! I think it’s best to find “your look” only once you’ve found yourself…and those crazy fashion editors are no exception….such an inspiration! I love this post, thanks for sharing!

  37. Clare says:

I LOOOVE this post! My hair is crazy so I usually wear it up hahaha… so as not to scare the masses.

  38. Of course you can if you come visit us! 🙂 Most of time, we leave our hair down however sometimes we do tie it in a ponytail or a messy bun. Tying it up to a messy bun with a piece of accessory is adorable, you should give it a try too ;)!

  39. Momojae says:

90% of the time, I wear my hair up in a ponytail or in a bun. I feel it’s more convenient for me. When I let my hair down, I always have to make sure it looks ok. (weird, eh? It should go the other way!) You are absolutely right if I tie my hair up too often, it will affect the hair’s health…
I think I still prefer the sleek look!

    xo

  40. dahl says:

I usually alternate between up and down, and sometimes I’ll try something different like a braid or curls. You’re hair down looks great in the header picture, but I’m sure it would be just as cute up to! I get what you mean though, being forced to keep your hair up is total hair oppression. All the looks on the models are soo gorgeous, I wish my hair were perfect like that!

  41. Stylista says:

I love having my hair down, especially now that it’s longer. But it only looks good when washed. Once I sleep on it, I rather put it up because it’s so flat. If only I had some natural waves! And if only I could do a really nice bun by myself!

Girl I totally love your blog!!! this post is essencial …! hope we could follow eachother… means a lot.

  43. Emma Whyte says:

I am the opposite I usually wear my hair up – well in a plait….as its wavy a plait can keep it under control! 🙂 When I have the time I like to make the effort & straighten or make some loose curls. I love the Chloe look you posted fab! If I had your fab hair I would definitely wear it down too 😉

  44. Love love love this post! I guess since this is my first time having long hair in sooo long (I had to grow it out for three years!) I love wearing it down. I usually just let it air dry and leave it alone, but sometimes I like to curl it. The only time I really wear it up is when I work out or am having an off-day, in which case I do a high ponytail. I do wish buns looked good on me though, I love the ones in the first couple pics you posted!

  45. Kara says:

I love having my hair down, but when I do, I’m constantly playing with it and twirling it around. Usually, I end up throwing it in a bun or high ponytail because it’s so hot.

  46. Cinz says:

I’m the same! i always always have my hair down because i think i look better that way, hahaha. the only time i tie it up is like u, in the shower, lol! I just dont think my face suits the tied up hair look!! Life is not fair eh!?!? But these short hair styles look sooo pretty!! ahhhh….so jealous!!! 😉

Why were you told you keep your hair up? Did you go to a private school? I normally start my day with my hair down, but by the end of the day, my hair ends up either in a bun or braided, especially in the summer when it’s super hot!

I tagged you in my last blog post, be sure to check it out! :o)

  48. Hi sweet..love the editorial about the hair styles..Just been thinking about that, long hair is in, but then there is that thing about salty dry torned and rough hairdue verses the sleek, well shampo’ed and hair dryed due..hm..in my case it’s the first option (as it’s a bit easier right now:-) xx V

  49. cryskay says:

love all the hair looks. the sleek bun is my fave. xx

  50. Nicole✗✗ says:

This is such a lovely post!! I love all the hairstyles up and down. I like to wear my hair down as well. I love how you explained it, “I feel like I’m oppressing my hair” that is perfect! Fun tip: That last picture of that model, Lindsey Wixson, she used to get her hair done at the salon I used to manage. : ) She is simply beautiful and extremely young!

You’re right I really must watch Glee more often. It truly is a great show but for some reason I haven’t been consistent with it. I have regrettably not seen Harry Potter pt.1 I have seen the trailer of both pt.1 and 2 and they look amazing!! I don’t know why I didn’t go and see pt. 1 in theaters. Thankfully it is coming out on dvd soon. I think April 15th. I will definitely do a review then!! I appreciate that you want to hear what I think on it!! : ) Thank you!
    Have a wonderful day!!

    Nino =))
    BTW nice blog =))

  53. I like both hairstyles! Brushed long hair or wavy hair which is very natural and easy to wear; but hair up can also be very glamorous, especially if you let some locks out of the chignon ^^
